8. Green Anaconda

The green anaconda, Eunectes murinus, also called giant or Аmazonian anaconda, is considered one of the largest snakes in the world. It inhabits South America, mainly the Amazon River basin, and that of Orinoco. The adult anacondas of this type reach a length of 9 m and a weight of 300 kg. The individual in our exposition is the longest taxidermy snake in Europe and is 8.5 m long. The green anaconda is a matriarchal animal: female snakes are larger and physically stronger than males. Due to their large size, they often attack big animals such as alligators, pumas, jaguars and tapirs. They hunt both on land and in water, but they are more successful in the water. The green anaconda is viviparous – the young are 20 to 30 in number and are between 50 and 60 cm long. The life expectancy is about 40 years.
