Barrel Jellyfish

Barrel Jellyfish

The barrel jellyfish (Rhizostoma pulmo) has a wide habitat including the north Atlantic, Mediterranean,  Black and Azov sea. It can grow up to 90 cm in length and 60 cm in diameter. It feeds entirely on plankton. It has cells called nematocysts, which sting when something touches them, although the human skin is too thick for them to penetrate.
